Terra Africa call for applications: training in environmental journalism

Terra Africa call for applications: training in environmental journalism

Are you a media outlet operating in Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea or Senegal? Do you want to cover more climate change-related stories and fly the flag for environmental protection in your country? If so, submit an application to us!

The Terra Africa project will provide you with support to produce content related to environmental protection in your country and will help you to consolidate the environmental journalism skills of your teams and engage with the challenges posed by climate change alongside scientists and specialist civil society organisations.

The aim of this call for applications is to select 4 media outlets in each target country, i.e. no more than 20 media outlets operating in Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Senegal, and to help them more effectively cover climate change-related issues in their country and in the region. A specific call for applications in Portuguese will focus on the countries of Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau.

From December 2022 until April 2024, the 20 selected media outlets will receive support to integrate environmental journalism into their editorial content as part of an educational programme that includes the following two components:

  • Promoting collaboration between the media, civil society, the scientific community and the private sector at national and regional level to make journalists more aware of environmental issues and more interested in providing high-quality media content that addresses local and regional issues related to global warming.

  • Enhancing the ability of the media to produce high-quality and better informed reports on the battle against climate change and to highlight the approaches taken by local communities to adapt and the eco-friendly initiatives undertaken within the private sector.
