Call for projects: grants for medias and CSOs to combat disinformation in the Western Balkans
Disinformation remains one of the most significant challenges facing modern societies, with the Western Balkans being no exception. Biased historical narratives, the widespread use of social media, and the lack of media literacy have created fertile ground for the spread of fake news and divisive rhetoric, threatening social cohesion and democratic processes in the region.
To address these pressing issues, Shared Horizons (Component 3) and Balkan Voices 2 have jointly launched a call for projects aimed at strengthening the capacities of media outlets and civil society organizations in the Western Balkans to combat disinformation and promote inclusive narratives.
A newly launched initiative to tackle disinformation and strengthen regional cooperation
Shared Horizons, specifically through its Component 3 implemented by CFI, focuses on enhancing media literacy, fostering regional cooperation, and supporting innovative solutions to tackle disinformation. This newly launched project is implemented through a consortium led by Expertise France, and implemented by the Institut Français, ALDA, Play International and CFI.
The project is funded by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aims to promote work on memory issues and common perspectives within the EU among young people in the Western Balkans.
A call for a more sustainable media landscape
Through this call for projects, CFI will support initiatives that aim to:
- Combat disinformation through fact-checking and investigative reporting
- Create credible and educational content for a wide audience
- Strengthen cooperation between media and civil society organizations to counter false narratives
- Educate young people on ways to identify and address fake news
This joint call for applications offers media professionals and civil society actors an opportunity to contribute to developing sustainable media practices and fostering inclusive narratives across the region.
