Une formation au journalisme de données au service de l’investigation pour 3 journalistes du réseau Médias indépendants en Méditerranée

Training in data journalism for investigative reporting for three journalists from the Independent Media in the Mediterranean network

For one week in January 2025, three journalists from the Independent Media in the Mediterranean network facilitated by Orient XXI and supported by CFI, were hosted ‘in residence’ in Paris. First, they visited Blast media for practical coaching within its Investigation Unit, then Orient XXI, where they attended an editorial board meeting and talked with a journalist specialising in investigative reporting.

On 24 January 2025, CFI hosted the three journalists and provided them with training in data journalism for investigative reporting, led by Sylvain Lapoix (Samsa Africa). Following a presentation about data journalism, its origins, and a review of the editorial teams and specialists to follow to find out more about the discipline, the course focused on the processing and dissemination of data for journalism, from research and database exploration methods to publication, with an introduction to data visualisation through a presentation of the main tools available.

This training course was the final activity of the Independent Media in the Mediterranean 2 project, and was run by CFI in addition to a grant awarded to Orient XXI to support the MIM2 network between June 2024 and January 2025
