MédiaLab pour Elles [MediaLab for Women]: 24 journalists selected

Over 250 people replied to the invitation for applications to take part in training courses on data-driven journalism and produce innovative gender-related investigations. Find out about the 24 winners.

These 24 journalists (twelve women and twelve men) come from four different countries (six per country); Madagascar, Niger, Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.
They were selected by a panel composed of CFI staff, the lead expert on the programme, Marianne Bouchart, and eight trainers, both women and men, from Médialab pour Elles: Paul-Joël Kamtchang, Madeleine Ngeunga, Fatiman Alher, Gaston Sawadogo, Satou Kane, Anderson Diedri, Fabienne Rafidiharinirina, and Fah Andriamanarivo.

The selection criteria related to the relevance of the topic and the feasibility of the proposed investigation, incorporation of the gender approach, identification of sources and editorial innovation, along with experience and interest in investigative journalism, digitisation and open data.

These journalists will take part in a series of workshops on data journalism and gender investigation using open data, starting in the month of March in Douala, Abidjan, Antananarivo and Niamey. At the start of the workshops, they will be split into groups of three for research and investigation to produce two collaborative investigations per country on gender inequality, for publication and joint distribution across the various media in December 2021.
