Eurasiadoc 2026: in Almaty, the Horizons Médias project is creating professional opportunities for documentary film-makers from Eurasia

Last June, the Eurasiadoc 2026 international co-production meetings were held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, with the support of CFI. This event is part of the Horizons Médias project, funded by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Organised by the French association Docmonde and its partners, the Central Asian Film Group, Arm Doc and Écran Libre, this event brought together professionals from the worlds of documentary film-making, production and distribution, as well as representatives from festivals across Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe, to discuss funding and international co-production challenges.

These meetings have fostered networking amongst those present and the development of collaborations between France, Europe and Eurasia, which are essential not only for boosting the production and distribution of documentaries, but also for supporting and strengthening the emergence of new narratives from the region.
For example, one of the highlights of the event was a session that enabled 14 film-makers from Central Asia and the Caucasus to present their documentary film projects to an audience of industry professionals, following a workshop on preparing a pitch (brief presentation) led by documentary experts.

This event also provided an opportunity to strengthen links between CFI projects and those of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Central Asia and the Caucasus, enabling the sharing of pitches to industry professionals from France and other European countries.

Through its support for Eurasiadoc, and via the Media Horizons project, CFI is continuing its commitment to the development of the audiovisual industries and to strengthening professional cooperation between Europe, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Turkey.

What next?

The documentary component of the Media Horizons project is continuing.
Coming soon: coaches from Central Asia will be providing close support for the most promising projects, and trips are currently being organised for film-makers to attend festivals in France and across Europe.
