Management training for radio station managers in the Sahel

MediaSahelIn Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger, 30 radio stations were selected from among the 73 partner stations of the MediaSahel project to receive management training from August, as part of the project’s “capacity building” component.
For these managers, this support is a way for them to improve their station’s economic model, the management of their teams and their ability to mobilise the community, including through the promotion of content on social media.
The modules have been designed by the management expert Sahadou Ali Zato in an interactive way and they alternate conceptual and methodological theory with group discussions and role-playing exercises. The support is provided in four consecutive stages, the first two of which covered business management and marketing, community management and social engagement.
At the suggestion of the Director at radio Oxygène de Bamako the first young listeners’ club at the station was established in Mali following the conclusion of this module. Its mission will be to evaluate its aired content and to contribute to the subjects that the programmes will cover.
“I learned how to engage and motivate my staff and how my team can be managed more effectively. Now I have the tools to make my radio station profitable by showing initiative and by reaching out to clients as well as sponsors. Since the training ended, I have managed to rally my staff around the objectives pursued here at Joliba. I am currently looking into other markets by producing technical sales sheets. I am a strong supporter of the radio infrastructure in Segou as I want it to become profitable”,
declared the Director of Joliba FM in Segou, Mali.
The third stage will be coaching provided on site by six management coaches directly within the radio stations themselves during 2022. This coaching stage will allow us to support and evaluate the implementation of the recommendations made. Last but not least, the MediaSahel project’s “management” section will conclude with team management training.
