Citizen reporters network, Jaridaty, lauded at the 2021 International Journalism Convention

This Tunisian project received the Media and Information Education – South Coast of the Mediterranean prize at the Tours International Journalism Convention, held from 29 September to 1 October 2021.

On Wednesday 29 September, the jury, chaired by journalist Hugo Clément and formed of 19 members, including 6 college students, awarded the Media and Information Education – South Coast of the Mediterranean prize to the Jaridaty, news by and for young people project, presented by Raouaa Selmi, project coordinator.

Backed by the Al Khatt association, Jaridaty is a network of citizen reporters in Tunisia, created to bridge the gap in the region’s media coverage. Since 2011, over 800 young people have been introduced to journalism or learned more about the discipline thanks to Jaridaty. Its aim is to educate about the media and the foundations of journalism, and to provide support in the production of new and relevant formats and journalistic content.

Each year, the Tours International Journalism Convention awards prizes that recognise initiatives associated with media education in six categories: media, school, out of school, association, Touraine - Centre-Val-De-Loire region and South Coast of the Mediterranean.

The Media and Information Education – South Coast of the Mediterranean prize is sponsored by CFI and comes with a grant of €1,500.
