Balkan Productions
Presentation
Although their political, economic and social situations are different, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo are facing the same challenges: ethnic divisions, fragile civil societies, frustration around the process of joining the European Union, prominence of state media, lack of pluralism, polarisation, poor governance, corruption, etc. In this context, the phenomenon of disinformation, which was already considered endemic throughout the Western Balkans, has gained pace in recent years, largely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Balkaniques Productions offers financial assistance, training and mentoring to media outlets in the region to allow them to create fact-checking units and produce surveys. In addition, the fact-checking element of the Balkans Voices online platform, Talmil, which provides media training to students in the region, will be enriched so as to make its content more relevant to journalists.
Project beneficiaries
Ten media outlets receiving sub-grants, including 50 journalists receiving training and mentoring.
