PAMT2A regional workshop organised at the beginning of December 2024 brought together journalists and experts to explore solutions for adapting the economies of the Maghreb to the effects of climate change. The outcome: enhanced understanding and a greater ability to report on environmental issues.
With the support of PAMT2, from 2 to 5 December 2024, Africa 21 brought together a group of journalists and experts to explore the solutions to be put in place to adapt the economies of the Maghreb to the effects of climate change. The workshop hosted journalists from Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. The outcome: enhanced understanding and a greater ability to report on environmental issues. The discussions focussed on the circular economy, which was presented as a promising model for preserving natural resources, stimulating economic development and reducing waste.
Supported by the European Union, the Swiss Embassy and GIZ, this event gave the journalists the opportunity to learn about the principles of the circular economy and to find out about projects being implemented in Tunisia.
The aim of the workshop was to gain the tools needed to inform the public and political decision-makers about the challenges of sustainable development and to promote the transition to a circular economy.
Faced with growing climate challenges, such as desertification and land aridification, the Maghreb is seeking to diversify its economic model. Against this backdrop, the circular economy could be an appropriate way to reconcile economic development with environmental protection. By reducing the pressure on natural resources and encouraging reuse and recycling, this model could help to strengthen the resilience of the Maghreb's economies in the face of climate change.
