PAMT2In 2024, PAMT2 facilitated a series of five workshops for more than 80 journalists, 75% of them women.
In view of the increase in violence - particularly gender-based violence - against journalists during elections in Tunisia, and the threats all journalists are facing under Decree-Law 54 on the fight against false news, PAMT2 wanted to help strengthen the capacity of journalists on issues of safety and the proper coverage of elections.
In the run-up to the October 2024 presidential elections, and in partnership with the #UNESCO office in Tunisia and the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists #SNJT, #PAMT2 facilitated a series of five workshops held in Tunis, Ain Draham, Djerba, Sousse and Sfax in September and October 2024, which brought together more than 80 journalists, 75% of whom were women.
The training courses created space for reflection and discussion on the issue of the safety of women journalists in an electoral context. They also allowed the journalists to take stock of gender-based violence, acquire risk management tools and procedures, and to gain knowledge of the legal and ethical principles relating to the media coverage of elections.
