“L’Afrique en séries”: continuation and conclusion

The last part of the L'Afrique en sériesproject, a 2-year programme of practical training to improve the level of professionalism in African TV series production took place in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) in early October.

The final session was attended by all partners in early November, in Johannesburg (South Africa) during DISCOP Africa.

Two independent experts - Philippe Rey and Marie-Noëlle Hauville - addressed around a dozen attendees from Cameroun, Ghana and Burkina Faso, explaining the role and responsibilities of the director and production manager: preparing written content, seeking funding, casting, location research, refining the screenplay, work schedule, cutting, and budgeting, right up to the organization of the shoot and post production.

This training course was the last in the L'Afrique en séries cycle of training courses, which was initiated by CFI in 2013 in response to an ACP cultures+ call for proposals, coordinated by the Secrétariat of the ACP Group of States and funded by the European Union.

DISCOP Africa took place from 5 to 7 November 2014 in Johannesburg (South Africa) and is a not-to-be-missed event for those in the TV industry. CFI concluded this project by bringing together all partner producers, and presented an overview of the last two years during which nine technical workshops took place, involving around one hundred professionals from Africa, aimed at improving the quality of African programmes through improvement of professional standards in key technical posts.

Trained by an expert in international distribution, producers also benefitted from personal mentoring to assist them in proposing, negotiating and selling their programmes in the market.
