MediaSahelThree African web media outlets have been selected to receive funding and technical support in order to promote the creation of innovative, youth-oriented content by young people. One of these media outlets is the Malian bloggers association, Doniblog, which has launched Angata.
The show has been developed and produced by young people (via Doniblog), for young people, and gives online viewers a look at Mali’s cities, towns and neighbourhoods. Angata gives people the opportunity to talk about where they live, whether in the capital city of Bamako, Goundam in Northern Mali, Siby in the south east, Segou, or elsewhere.
Each episode features somebody with a particular affinity for where they live, who leads viewers on a journey to discover the area’s landmarks. The aim of Angata is for other young Malians to share in the culture and values of neighbourhoods held dear by the presenters.
The production team consists of two young women and two young men, while the innovative concept has been delivering on its potential so far. The first two episodes have been shared on social media and the reception to the show has been very good, as the comments left on Angata’s Facebook page prove: Very interesting show. An admirable initiative. Can’t wait for the next episode!
The first report, which showed us around the town of Segou, got 87,000 views. It also sparked a sense of wanderlust according to one online viewer: Really amazing, it would be nice to have the man’s number and get a private tour!
While receiving this content production support, the teams will also benefit from personalised guidance provided by Inoussa Maïga from Agribussiness TV and Ségolène Malterre from the Pas 2 Quartier show on France 24.
Episodes of Angata are released every month on social media (Facebook, YouTube).
