YMER+As part of the YMER+ project, a webinar on COVID-19 media coverage in Yemen will be held on Thursday, 10 December 2020 between 8 a.m. and 10.50 a.m. (London time).
This webinar aims to discuss the ethical aspects, lessons learned, and mistakes made in connection with stories in Yemeni media covering COVID-19, as well as the collaboration between journalists and NGOs to tackle the pandemic.
Support for this event will be provided by the participation of a number of leading figures, including the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen, M. Martin Griffiths, the EU Ambassador to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, the Chair and Managing Director of CFI, Thierry Vallat and the Deputy Head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, Crispen Rukasha. French diplomatic representatives with responsibility for Yemen will also be in attendance.
Five prizes will be awarded during the webinar to the best pieces of journalism that covered COVID-19.
The journalists selected come from the Yemeni governorates of Sana’a, Al Hudaydah, Aden, Ta’izz and Hadhramaut.
NGO representatives and Yemeni journalists from several governorates will also share their stories of what it has been like to tackle the epidemic in a particularly challenging situation due to health, economic and social restrictions.
This webinar is one of the YMER+ project's activities that are focused on addressing the COVID-19 epidemic and also included the distribution of 280 protective kits to journalists so that they could continue to work in the field.
