Two beneficiaries of the NAILA project win awards at the Prix Francophone de l’Innovation dans les Médias

The news website Habari RDC and the Malian online TV channel Kunafoni have been awarded the 1st and 2nd prizes at the Francophone Awards for Innovation in the Media, receiving their prizes at the headquarters of the International Organisation of la Francophonie (IOF) in Paris on 23 March 2018.

Habari RDC received the top prize, which is worth 10,000 euros. The website brings together the work of around a hundred Congolese bloggers spread across 8 cities throughout the DRC, publishing articles, reports, photos and videos. It also acts as a forum for constructive debate and dialogue.

The second prize - worth 6,500 euros - went to Malian online TV channel Kunafoni. A news media outlet, the channel broadcasts news bulletins and debates in rap, championing programmes that promote the role of women and young people in Mali and across sub-Saharan Africa.


TheFrancophone Awards for Innovation in the Media are the product of a partnership between the IOF, RFI and RSF. Their purpose is to reward innovation in content, usability and economic and organisational models that contributes to strengthening press freedom and the public's right to information.

Along with eight other media outlets, Habari RDC and Kunafoni have been involved in the Naila project since September 2017. The project aims to foster professionalism among these new players on the news scene in francophone Africa by helping them to better structure their business and editorial models. Naila also aims to promote the development of innovative projects in editorial departments.
