Thanks to MédiaSahel, RFI relocates to Ouagadougou to offer young people the opportunity to take the microphone

Ouagadougou hosted RFI’s teams for the recording of several editions of Appels sur l’actualité [News Calls] by Juan Gomez and Débat Africain [African Debate] by Alain Foka on 29 March 2021.

Having set themselves up at the Joseph Ki Zerbo University for 4 hours of broadcasts, Juan Gomez and Alain Foka debated and gave Burkina Faso’s young people, large numbers of whom had come along to listen and participate, the opportunity to have their say. The topics broached with the young students, political figures and members of civil society included the security situation in the country, whether or not to negotiate with the jihadists, national reconciliation, education and the employability of young people.

The following day, the RFI team ran a master class for almost thirty journalists and radio technicians with support from the MédiaSahel project.

The same scenario unfolded at the University of Social Sciences and Management of Bamako, Mali, on 20 and 21 May 2021. The main topics discussed with the students, who appeared in their droves, were: the tense socio-political climate, administrative strikes, and what it is like to be a student in Mali in 2021.

These relocations were initiated as part of the MédiaSahel project, which is implemented by CFI in partnership with RFI and with support from the AFD. It participates, via the media, in the sociopolitical inclusion of young people in the Sahel region.
