Journalism and the climate emergency: CFI and RFI at the Assises du Journalisme conference in Tours, France

On 30 September, journalist Jean Kouchner will lead a panel on environmental journalism in the southern Mediterranean during the Assises du Journalisme conference in Tours.

While this year's theme is the climate and health emergency and journalistic responsibilities, the panelists will discuss the achievements of MediaLab Environment, a CFI project supported by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, as well as the ePOP initiative carried out by RFI in collaboration with the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD).

The results of a study conducted on behalf of MediaLab Environment by the consultancy firm OTE Research on the state of environmental journalism in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan will also be presented. Journalist and trainer Khaled Sulaiman will report on other achievements, such as the creation of a manual that features a set of tools for Arabic-speaking journalists who want to cover environmental issues. Max Bale, Section Head of RFI Planète Radio, will present the ePOP initiative - a citizen's network for information, debate and mobilisation concerning climate and environmental change.
