First graduation ceremony at the Myanmar Journalism Institute (MJI)

On 4 July 2015, the 28 students of the first graduating year at MJI, Myanmar's recently founded school of journalism, received their degrees from school director U Thiha Saw, in the presence of a range of media personalities.

The event also provided an opportunity for the students to present the work they had produced in the field at the summer session held in June in Pakkoku, in central Myanmar: an 8-minute radio report, a 7-minute televised subject and a 20 page magazine.

French Ambassador Thierry Mathou was also in attendance to present the students with the balance of the annual bursaries awarded by the French Embassy to support them in their efforts. Other attendees included U Ye Tint, Director General of the Information Ministry, several of President Thein Sein's education advisers, and a number of journalists.

U Myint Kyaw, interim MJI executive director, closed the ceremony by outlining the Institute's future projects.
