In Armenia, public television is preparing to monetise its archives

Over the last few years, the public TV channel, Armenia 1, has rolled out an extensive programme for digitising its archives. In November 2021, experts from the INA led training on this subject for the Armenian media.

On CFI's proposal, guidance and advice were provided to a group of television people, by the archives and marketing services, on the subject of capitalising on and monetising their important archives.

From 8 to 16 November, experts from the INA (l'Institut National de l'Audiovisuel — National Audiovisual Institute) led the training, which was specifically designed for Armenia 1, while they also led discussions with participants during the preparatory phase to help better understand their expectations and needs.

Identifying, indexing and documenting media

With the main objective being to better understand the distribution chain and the process of preparing and distributing an archive catalogue, over six modules, this training session enabled participants to better identify, index and document the media and materials of each audiovisual programme affected by the distribution project.

The legal analysis, which involves determining the nature of the property rights related to each audiovisual programme, was also discussed, as well as the options available to Armenia 1 in terms of commercialising its archives (controlling its whole sales chain or delegating some or all of its distribution activity). There was also a workshop on setting price positioning, as well as tips on monetising its content on YouTube.
