4M AsiaThe 4M Paris Meetings of 20 and 22 April 2016 also provided the opportunity to review the progress of the 4M Asia project and consider the next milestones.
Launched in the autumn of 2015, with media from Southeast Asia, this project aims to strengthen the local, community and national media, thanks to the opportunities afforded by digital technology.
Following the 4M Meetings,CFI and the Alliance of Independent Journalists of Indonesia (AJI) have worked on the training schedule for local media outlets that are members of the AJI to provide content for the aggregator site www.independen.id, which will be launched in August during the AJI's annual Media Festival following a series of training sessions held since October 2015.
For its part, the Media Learning Centre of the Thai online media outlet prachatai.com has renewed its partnership with CFI with regard to 4M Asia. Together, they will launch, during a forum in Bangkok in June, a project supporting community media from the ASEAN region, consisting of three training workshops until 2017.
Its aim is to use the opportunities provided by digital technology to strengthen, in the media, the visibility at local and national level of community issues and minority groups.
Finally, Open Development Mekong, DataN and rappler.com have specified the scope of a project involving data journalism and data visualisation.
After selecting around twelve teams (journalists, developers, media outlets, associations, etc.), the CFI experts will work with them on developing tools or articles allowing the expression of diverse opinions in their media and increasing their readership.
These projects will run until next year and will be presented and discussed during a regional 4M forum in autumn 2017.
