112 Sahelian radio programmes compete to be named
one of the best in their country

CFI launches a competition to recognise the best programmes produced by MediaSahel’s partner radio stations. The juries have initiated listening sessions in order to select the winners for each country involved in the project.

MediaSahel has been providing assistance to 72 radio stations in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger for three years, with a dual focus on enhancing skills and supporting production. This competition aims to celebrate the work of these media outlets and encourage their journalists to continue looking for sustainable development solutions. The aim is to recognise programmes aimed at young people and women, which have been produced and broadcast within the last two months, and which focus on national conflict resolution.

112 entries in various local languages have been received from a total of 56 partner radio stations. Country-specific juries composed of five people each will examine these entries and select winners in three categories: interactive programmes, journalistic and thematic programmes and news programmes. After Mali and Burkina Faso have chosen their winners, it’s Niger’s turn.

According to Hawa D., a member of Burkina Faso’s jury and a young MediaSahel flagbearer, the competition will be an opportunity to evaluate the skills acquired by the professionals working within the media outlets receiving support. “I am happy to have been selected as a member of the jury for this competition. It shows that young people are valued by MediaSahel,” she explains.
