Social change and digital transformation: the challenges for the Arab media
As part of the arts and ideas music festival “Arabofolies", the Arab World Institute, together with CFI and Courrier International, is organising a day of debating via the media in the Arab world on Friday 14 June 2019.
In 2011, the "Arab Spring" demonstrated the remarkable power of social networks in raising awareness and uniting the people's demands. Independent media emerged, seen as alternative platforms for communication and civil expression, driven by new technology.
What has been the impact of this development on communication and information?
What is the current state of freedom of expression and new technology?
How is traditional media evolving in this new climate?
This day of debating will give those who are working to shape these new media the chance to speak. The programme will consist of a morning dedicated entirely to Algerian media and the changes currently happening in Algeria and an afternoon exploring the digital transformation of media throughout the Arab world.
