The webinar organised on 1 December 2020 as part of the #PAGOF project to highlight specific initiatives that have helped to address the challenges posed by COVID-19 in the fields of transparency, access to reliable information and open data was a huge success. This two-hour event, held live online, was an opportunity to share practical tools in French that could be supplemented, replicated and adapted as required and depending on the specific features of each one.
In total, six initiatives conducted both through the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and in French’speaking Africa were presented: the “Open Response and Open Recovery” campaign led by the OGP; access to reliable information on the pandemic in Tunisia through the establishment of Facebook pages and sites; the opendatacam platform in Cameroon; the GuineeCheck platform against inaccurate reporting on the pandemic in Guinea; the #covidbaromètre229 barometer in Benin; and the public consultation platform established as part of the co-development of the new National Action Plan (NAP) in Côte d’Ivoire.
Participants left with lessons learned and ideas to enable them to implement similar actions or tools in their own countries to fight against the impacts of a pandemic such as COVID-19, while also strengthening the principles of open government.
