Online meetings and resources to adapt the practices of journalism in time of COVID-19

COVID-19 is generating unprecedented media coverage; health constraints are disrupting journalists' working conditions.

How to adapt one's practice of journalism to the situation?
How to guarantee the reliability of information?
How to renew the angles, how to invent new ways of processing information when Covid-19 has established itself as the almost unique subject of all editorial offices around the world?

You are a journalist in an Arabic-speaking media ? We invite you to take part in these collective reflections

Several tools are at your disposal:

  • A Facebook group to exchange with other journalists from the region and share tips, experiences, good practices...
  • Weekly virtual conferences, in Arabic, to discuss changes in practice of journalism during the Covid-19 health crisis.

The first conversation will take place on Thursday 4 June at 16:00 (GMT).
And will last 45 minutes. The following theme will be tackle:
Health crisis Vs Economic crisis: how to stay connected to the field?

Moderator: Rasha Abou Zaki, economic and financial journalist in Lebanon.
Speaker: Karoline Kamel, Egyptian journalist and writer, and Amal Mekki, Tunisian journalist.

The Covid-19 pandemic has rapidly become omnipresent in all media, favouring the treatment of "hot" news to the detriment of other information, which is just as essential for populations. However, while in the North Africa / Middle East region the victims of the economic crisis caused by the pandemic are more numerous, they do not make the headlines. Daily labourers and informal workers suffer from great economic precariousness, and remain even more marginalized than before in the media field.
How can we continue to cover the plight of the most vulnerable populations and why is it important?

Upcoming Conversations:
Thursday 11 June 16:00 GMT:
Why media forgot about mental health?
Thursday 18 June 16h GMT: How epidemics, and the fakenews coming along with them, emerge?
