'Le Parlement': a Jordanian podcast bringing citizens and Members of Parliament together

Within the EU-JDID programme, CFI provides support for the production of a political audio programme titled Le Parlement [Parliament] that brings Jordanian citizens and MPs together in an environment where they are able to interact on the latest political and parliamentary developments in the country.

The programme tackles parliamentary debates through content adapted to various broadcasting aids (social networks, podcasts, traditional radio) in a manner never seen before in the country. Le Parlement's formats are designed to reach a young audience in a country where the majority of the citizens are under 35 years old.

Le Parlement was developed by Sowt, a podcast production company based in Amman, Jordan, that proposed reinventing audio narration in the Arab world. In addition to financial support given to Sowt following a call for projects, CFI provided the company with an international consultant who supports it in the production of this innovative programme.

Each episode of Le Parlement begins with an interview with an MP on Facebook live.
A WhatsApp and Telegram number is provided to the audience to collate questions and comments in advance of the interview. Reports and vox pops are integrated into an episode put online on radio platforms, podcasts, and the Sowt website.

The episodes are also broadcast on the radio, in Amman ( Radio Al Balad), in the south (Sawt Al Karak) and in the north of the country (Sawt Al Janoub).

12 programmes of Le Parlement have been broadcast and its audience is growing with each new episode.
The episode dedicated to "Assessment of the performance of MPs in the extraordinary session", broadcast on 11 October 2018, was particularly successful, with +15,000 views of the interview on Facebook and more than 2,000 shares.
This result, welcomed by CFI, highlights the interest of the Jordanian public in quality journalistic productions on the parliamentary life of the country.
