Investigative Journalism regional training programme: call for applications

Investigative Journalism regional training programme: call for applications

CFI, in partnership with Mediapart, has devised an investigative journalism training programme covering the issues of corruption, transparency and freedom of information, which is specifically intended for journalists in Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia.

'Investigative Journalism: Corruption, Transparency and Freedom of Information' regional training programme: call for applications

Four training sessions, each lasting four days, will be given at CAPJC (the African Centre for the Training of Journalists and Communicators) in Tunis between November 2013andFebruary 2014. The aim is for the participants' investigative reports to be completed and ready for publication by the end of the training programme.

Programme open to journalists from the written or online press and to proven active bloggers (Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia)

All applicants must put forward a specific investigative report proposal and be backed by the Chief Editor of the publication that they work for (with actual partnerships between the two being actively encouraged). They must be capable of working at full capacity in an academic and professional environment.
They must have a very good command of French. They may, however, be required to write their report in Arabic, in which case writing classes will be organised.

The 12 successful applicants undertake to participate in the training programme in full and to produce an investigative report focusing on the issues of corruption, transparency and freedom of information. This report, which will be around 15,000 characters long, is intended to be published in the publication that the journalist works for.
Each journalist will be constantly supervised by a tutor as they work on their investigative report.

This constant contact (training session in Tunis and remote supervision) will ensure that the participants rigorously apply their acquired theoretical knowledge in their practical work, and also help them to structure their work.

The organisers reserve the non-exclusive right to publish every investigative report produced, no earlier than 3 months after each report has been published in the publication that the respective participant works for, for the purposes of publicising the training initiative.

The training programme is provided for free to the participants, and covers all their costs arising from flight tickets, airport transfers, accommodation and meals. It also covers all the Chief Editors' costs arising from flight tickets, airport transfers, accommodation and meals, during the first training session.

Closing date for submitting applications: 8 November 2013
