Supporting Resilient and Sustainable Media in Sudan: Activities for 2026

As part of the European Union-funded Revitalising and Enhancing Media in Sudan (REM) programme, which is implemented by Internews in partnership with CFI and Gisa Group, CFI continues to support Sudanese media organisations in building their resilience and adapting to an ever-changing media landscape.

Through capacity-building initiatives, the programme supports media professionals and organisations in strengthening their sustainability, diversifying their editorial practices, and better meeting the information needs of Sudanese audiences.

Radio stations are being equipped and digital storytelling skills developed

Over the past few months, CFI has supported four Sudanese radio stations with a bespoke programme comprising a four-day online workshop and four months of personalised mentoring. The programme was designed to reinforce organisational governance, editorial management and long-term sustainability, and gave each station specific support to develop its business, financial and editorial plans.

In addition, Sudanese journalists and content creators participated in specialised training on producing social media content. With the backing of production grants, they are now developing original digital content aimed at deepening audience engagement and widening access to reliable, independent information across digital platforms.

Expanding support through podcast production

Building on these initiatives, CFI will soon launch a new podcast production programme for Sudanese journalists and content creators. The programme combines an intensive practical workshop in Nairobi with four months of individual mentoring to support participants in developing high-quality podcast projects, covering everything from storytelling and production to audience engagement and digital distribution.

The REM programme continues to equip Sudanese media professionals with the skills and tools needed to enhance the resilience and long-term viability of independent media in Sudan, while improving access to reliable, inclusive and public interest information, by pairing support to radio stations with training in social media and podcast production.
