Training in Election Reporting

15 new educational and practical fact sheets focusing specifically on the reporting of elections have been added to the collection available at 24hdansuneredaction.com.

The election reporting training kit provides media professionals with a practical learning tool for covering elections.

The kit will help journalists provide comprehensive news coverage of elections, in a completely balanced and impartial manner. As key players in guaranteeing democracy, the media are duty-bound to report on what citizens hope and expect from their future leaders and to inform them about the manifestos of every political candidate.

The new fact sheets focus on the following issues:
- Five tips on how to maintain a healthy relationship with a candidate
- How to prepare and lead a debate?
- What newsroom meeting(s) should be held?
- Interviewing means knowing how to listen... and to interrupt
- How can today's youth be encouraged to take more interest in election campaigns?
- What coverage should be given to a political conference?
- Getting the audience involved: some tips for making everything go smoothly
- Is today's journalist a civics teacher?
- Ways of processing information that are often overlooked…
- Which sources should be given preference during the campaign?
- How can you approach and properly manage your contacts by telephone?
- How and why should social network sites be used during the election?
- Covering an election campaign
- The key ethical rules to respect, especially during an election
- Tips on how to get female citizens more involved

The fact sheets have been written by a team of six CFI trainers:
Jean-Marie Coat, Sophie Ekoué, Florence Morice, Yoro Sangaré, Pierre-Yves Schneider and Emmanuel de Solère-Stintzy.
The kit is currently available in two languages: French and Arabic.
