Best practices for digital communication - monetisation
To take things further and be even more productive, you can also monetise your social media profiles, which will enable you, as a content creator, to benefit from a regular source of income. Read on to discover the techniques to apply to each of your social network profiles for optimum profitability.
Monetisation : Facebook page
To earn money on Facebook, first check whether you are eligible by carefully reading the main rules. You must ensure you comply with the following points:
- The Facebook Community Standards: in relation to unsafe content that depicts graphic violence, nudity and hate speech.
- The Partner Monetisation Policies: these are typically applied at the Page level and address the behaviour of your Page as a whole, including rules for the content that your Page creates, how that content is shared and how your Page receives and makes online payments.
- The Content Monetisation Policies: these address the content of each individual video or post that your Page publishes.
Check your eligibility in Creator Studio :
- Go to the Facebook section in Creator Studio.
- Click Monetisation.
- From the Overview section, use the Page picker at the top of your screen to choose the Pages that you want to see monetisation information about.
There are numerous tools that enable you to generate good, reliable and sustainable income from your content :
- In-Stream Ads: add short ads before, during or after your videos. Your income is determined by indicators such as number of video views and also depends on the advertisers.
- Fan subscriptions: this feature allows those who love your Page the most to fund it directly via recurring monthly payments set by you. Currently, access to fan subscriptions is by invitation only.
- Branded content: earn money by posting content that highlights or is influenced by a business partner. The Brand Collabs Manager is a tool that allows you to increase your visibility as a content creator with partner brands and connect with others.
- Subscriber groups: by giving your page admins the means to support themselves via subscriptions, you can invest more in your community.
See below for more details about the types of in-stream ads :
- Pre-roll ads : these are played before your video starts. They are shown to people who actively seek out the content. The more viewers that seek out the content, the more payouts you receive.
- Mid-roll ads : these are played during your video. They work best within a video that has natural break points. Facebook recommends that you use automatic placements, but you can also choose your own placements manually.
- Image ads : these are static images that are displayed under the content. They help you earn money from videos that don’t have a good place for mid-roll ads, such as comedy skits.
Monetisation : Instagram
You can generate income on Instagram without necessarily having a very wide audience. In fact, more and more brands are starting to work with nano- and micro-content creators. They benefit from an attractive engagement rate as they gradually develop a close relationship with their audience.
Depending on the type of content you create, the audience you build and the frequency of your presence on social media, you can earn money on Instagram in different ways:
- Make use of influencer marketing by publishing sponsored posts for brands in which your audience is interested.
- Earn commission by selling products from third-party brands, which is commonly called affiliate marketing.
- Sell a product online, if you have any. This will allow you to offer users a paid service and thereby earn revenue.
- Sell your photos. The image rights to your snapshots are also a way to earn money.
As with Facebook, Instagram also allows you to earn money by integrating ads into your videos.
For this, you first need to activate monetisation in your account parameters by clicking on Creator and In-Stream Video Ads. Once you have done this, you simply need to post your Instagram videos while ensuring that you have activated Insights on your newsfeed.
However, Instagram also has required conditions that you must meet to earn money. The amount you receive will depend on the number of views obtained by your video. These are called “monetizable views”.
Other conditions also apply in Instagram. To generate income, your videos must be at least 2 minutes long. According to Instagram Business, the ideal video length for improved profitability is between 2 and 4 minutes.
Monetisation : Twitter
Twitter offers you two monetisation options :
- Amplify Pre-Roll : with this advertising programme, you can display pre-roll before the video content you want to share on Twitter.
- Amplify Sponsorships : with this programme, you can link your premium video content through a sponsorship established between you and one or more advertisers. There’s nothing better than sponsorship to increase your reach and revenue and provide advertisers seeking to reach your audience with good results.
And that’s not all. In addition to these two options, Twitter also provides you with three techniques for generating revenue :
- Super Follow : as a content creator you can set an access fee for some of the content on your profile.
- Ticketed Spaces : thanks to the (free) creation of audio rooms bringing users together for conversations on specific subjects, you can create Twitter Spaces with ticket-only accessibility. This allows you to create paid sessions and therefore generate income.
- Tip Jar : to support their favourite content creator, Twitter users have the option, if they wish, to make a donation via the platforms that Twitter allows you to use.
Monetisation : YouTube
On YouTube, the best way to generate revenue is through adverts during video viewing.
But there are also other ways to earn money on YouTube, including:
- Becoming a YouTube partner and being paid via advertisements.
- Monetising your channel by selling products that you promote in your videos.
- Financing (through crowdfunding) the next project with support from your YouTube audience.
- Enabling your audience to support your content through donations.
- Selling your videos to online media outlets under licence.
- Collaborating with brands as an influencer or affiliate.
Monetisation : LinkedIn
On LinkedIn, you can earn money through affiliation. To do this, you simply need to promote the products of the specific e-commerce site on your LinkedIn account. This requires you to post links to the seller and calls to action in order to redirect consumers to the site of the merchant or company with which you are affiliated.
