Presentation

CFI is involved in the deployment of the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) standard in Senegal and Tunisia by supporting media outlets throughout the self-assessment process.

What is the JTI standard?
Developed by Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF), its aim is to provide a transparent mechanism for reducing misinformation and restoring public confidence in the media by highlighting media outlets that abide by ethical journalism principles. Media outlets wishing to assess their compliance with the standard complete a self-assessment questionnaire based on objective determinant criteria, publish their transparency reports and then obtain independent certification.

In the first component of the JTI AFRICA project, CFI will join forces with RSF to involve media outlets in the self-assessment process, by co-organising information workshops on registering for the JTI platform, with a focus on key documents such as the editorial charter.
CFI will then call upon the necessary experts, who will provide training workshops and personalised support sessions to help several media outlets strengthen their practices on points related to the JTI standard criteria.

The second component of the project will involve an assessment of the methodology for implementing the JTI standard in Senegal and Tunisia, carried out by the RSF team. Recommendations will also be provided to international cooperation actors to help RSF effectively implement the standard and support media outlets in the certification process.
