On the agenda for the return of Afri’Kibaaru, six journalist training sessions in the Greater Sahel region

Split into groups of 16 for 10 days in N’Djamena (Chad), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Bamako (Mali), Niamey (Niger), Dakar (Senegal) and Nouakchott (Mauritania), the beneficiaries of these training sessions were able to increase their knowledge of the main principles of journalism and of the various journalistic genres, and dive into subjects associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focussing specifically on gender.

In addition to this knowledge refresher, the training above all focussed on transitioning from theory to practical, by asking the attendees to leave the training rooms and connect with the public to produce content. It was an opportunity for the journalists (over half of whom were women), whether young or “old”, just starting out or more experienced, to compare their usual production methods with new practices, suggested by both the trainers and their colleagues. It gave everyone a chance to shake up their practices, and to forge new links within their profession.
